Sometimes you use your old skills and it’s fun

“Hey Laureli,” he said. “I have a project for you.”

“Alright. What’s up?”

“Senator Dan Sullivan is coming to town and I’d like you to interview him. On Saturday.”

Anyone who knows me well knows that interviewing politicians is not my favorite thing. I like sharing lifestyle stories with heart, humor, and honesty.

“Sure,” I said. “I can do that.”

The thing is. I miss radio. I love radio. And I’m flat-out curious. I took the job and spoke with U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan this morning about whatever I wanted, for Norton Sound listeners.

Thanks, KNSA. It was a lot of fun to be in that chair again.

We talked about his role as Senator for Alaska. We talked about the role he can take with issues like the aging water and sewer infrastructure in Unalakleet. We talked about his address at the Republican National Convention and his support for Donald Trump as the President of the United States. We also talked about the Arctic and his view on how the government can work with indigenous people. We talked about a lot during this stop at the station.

Later that day the station manager called me and said, “Good interview. You have only one fault.”

“Okay,” I said. “What is it. Tell me.”

“Mmkay. Mmkay.”

We laughed and I was happy to receive the feedback. It’s been three years, okay. (smile)
