One of my favorite stories comes from one of my favorite memories. I’ll never forget just finishing up some of my cousin Allen’s akuutaq (it’s so good!) and seeing a seal pop up right in front of us. I hustled to the boat, putting my muck boots on, asking my Dad if my niece, Katiya, and daughter, Sidney, and I could take his boat.

This story shares our first all-lady seal hunt. I’ll read this piece at an Anchorage Museum event on Friday, November 1.
